You cannot do that in GarageBand. This is a more advanced feature available in Logic Pro X where you just opt+drag the Region Border to time compress/expand it.
The only wat GarageBand stretches an Audio Region without altering its pitch is with Apple Loops. For that, you have to convert an Audio File into an Apple Loop (drag it over the Loop Browser). However, the Audio Region has to fit into the current Tempo, and when used in a different Project (with a different Tempo), it automatically adjusts to that Tempo, so you still can't manually stretch to a specific length.
Using the drummer track in Garageband is really quite simple. All it really takes is for you to make a riff/melody, and then load up the drummer you think sounds the best. It doesn’t get more sophisticated than that, really. H owever, through the adjustment of some parameters, you can make a big difference in the way it sounds. The first option is available thanks to GarageBand’s new sharing options. Just go to the My Songs screen where you store your tunes, and tap and hold on a song file until the song thumbnails. In this video, I show you an effective editing technique to help correct the timing of individual guitar or vocal notes on Audio Recorder tracks. GarageBand for Mac.
