Open an environment prepared Terminal. Enter the following command to get the IP address of the Docker Toolbox virtual machine: host docker-machine ip default 192.168.99.100. Click to see full answer Similarly one may ask, how do I find my docker host IP address?
Docker Container IP Address. By default, the container is assigned an IP address for every Docker network it connects to. And each network is created with a default subnet mask, using it as a pool later on to give away the IP addresses. Usually Docker uses the default 172.17. 0.0/16 subnet for container networking. The 'host' part in the Docker endpoint string (ssh://username@host:port) must be either a globally-resolvable DNS machine name, or an IP address. Docker extension will not be able to use host aliases defined in the SSH configuration file. Are you running 'Docker for Windows' or 'Docker Toolbox for Windows'? If it is Docker Toolbox, the default ip address should be 192.168.99.100, you should be able to see it when you start docker shell, otherwise the ip address should be same as your local machine.
If you use the
host
network mode for a container, that container’s networkstack is not isolated from the Docker host (the container shares the host’snetworking namespace), and the container does not get its own IP-address allocated. For instance, if you run a container which binds to port 80 and you use host
networking, the container’s application is available on port 80 on the host’s IPaddress.Note: Given that the container does not have its own IP-address when using
host
mode networking, port-mapping does nottake effect, and the -p
, --publish
, -P
, and --publish-all
option areignored, producing a warning instead:Docker Machine Ip Docker For Windows
Host mode networking can be useful to optimize performance, and in situations wherea container needs to handle a large range of ports, as it does not require networkaddress translation (NAT), and no “userland-proxy” is created for each port.
The host networking driver only works on Linux hosts, and is not supported onDocker Desktop for Mac, Docker Desktop for Windows, or Docker EE for Windows Server.
You can also use a
host
network for a swarm service, by passing --network host
to the docker service create
command. In this case, control traffic (trafficrelated to managing the swarm and the service) is still sent across an overlaynetwork, but the individual swarm service containers send data using the Dockerdaemon’s host network and ports. This creates some extra limitations. For instance,if a service container binds to port 80, only one service container can run on agiven swarm node.Next steps
